Ship Inspector Training

Presentation assistance for lecturers and instructors

Project

Project background

To assist lecturers and instructors in conducting classes and presentations, the Germanische Lloyd Academy was seeking a system into which existing presentations could be imported. The presentation tool was intended to offer the instructors the option of utilizing presentation templates that could be quickly fleshed out, using current additional information and flexibly supplementing the mandatory components with their own media.

Solution

The interactive presentation system developed by benntec especially for instructors and lecturers offers a 2-monitor solution with separate views for the instructor and the students in the classroom. Presentation content can be edited and post-it messages or markings, for instance, can be created using a toolbar. It is also possible to load and work with case studies (pre- and post-study as WBT).

The presentation can be used on any standard PC, notebook or LCD projector. In addition, an entry-level module was developed that helps harmonize the “entry-level knowledge” of the students at the beginning of the course. The trainees were prospective ship inspectors who, among other duties, check the seaworthiness of ships.

The benefit

The instructor can optimally prepare his class and simply load standardized content into his presentation system. This ensures a consistent quality and volume of knowledge transfer. Moreover, current content can simply be called up. The instructor receives a preview on his screen and thus sees which content is going to be shown to the auditorium next. This option allows the trainer optimal organization of the class.

The displayed content can be stored with all the markings and remarks and made available to the students for follow-up. This type of training and presentation of the instruction material has in the meantime also been implemented for training at the German Armed Forces.
