Simulation framework iSi-Frame
Desktop training on the digital twin
A new dimension of holistic team training on complex systems
From ship operations to power plants, oil rigs, and industrial facilities of all types: the key to seamless and efficient operation lies in the expertise and smooth collaboration of your entire team. The practical training of people with diverse knowledge and tasks presents operators of complex systems with immense challenges, especially given the ongoing skills shortage. Operating errors on the original equipment are unacceptable due to safety and cost
reasons, as they often result in severe chain reactions.
Elevate your training on complex technical systems to an unprecedented level and revolutionize your entire team's training with our groundbreaking
simulation framework iSi-Frame: interactive, modular, flexible, and safe.
Real interaction with direct feedback
on the digital twin
In the risk-free environment of a classroom, your team practices handling equipment, complex operational and management processes, incident management, and communication scenarios.
With benntec's proven simulation technology, both trainees and experienced professionals and executives experience the real impacts of their actions and decisions. Every process is accurately mapped to the digital twin of your system. Processes are started, stopped, and influenced at the touch of a button. The digital twin behaves like the real system.
Maximum training success through an integrated training concept
iSi-Frame connects simulation technology with a smart training environment. Its modular structure allows various trainin technologies and tools to interlock, creating a comprehensive interactive training system precisely tailored to your individual requirements and specific training needs.
Overview of the iSi-Frame structure
HOLISTIC
iSi-Frame is an interactive simulation framework that allows for the simulation of entire systems, including all components and control levels, on the digital twin − starting with the overarching automation system, which can, for example, be connected as an OEM software module, through the upper control level (e.g., ship bridge) to local control panels and manual interventions on devices (e.g., valve control).
PRECISE
The real system behavior is simulated on the basis of realistic mathematical-physical models (Physical modules) – in real-time.
The complex interplay in the operation of control and guidance systems, mechanics, sensors, electrical systems, electronics, hardware, and software is accurately reproduced.
PROCEDURAL
Realistic software replicas of operating and user interfaces (GUI modules) allow procedures to be conducted just as they will be in practice.
INTEGRATED
In iSi-Frame's integrated simulation-based training environment (SimTE), training units can be created and recorded, user groups
and roles can be defined, and scenarios with different system states and learning objectives can be designed. iSi-Frame enables both classroom and individual training as well as team training via the network. The entire training is organized through the training environment.
SCALABLE
Thanks to its modular structure and its multi-user and network capability, iSi-Frame is highly flexible and adaptable. Interfaces can be operated across systems, and functionality can be individually expanded as needed.
Modules and special features of iSi-Frame in detail
-
Physical modules
Simulations of physical and technical processes for sustainable conveyance of in-depth process know-how
Physical processes such as fluid movements or heat transfers are mathematically modeled and calculated. The detailed flow diagram or process flow chart is a dynamic visualization and represents the technical system − or parts of it − with all details such as pipes, tanks, pumps,
valves, heaters, etc. The visualization is linked to the physical-mathematical models, and the
system status is displayed in real-time. Relevant manual operations and elements operable in
the real world, such as valves or dampers, can also be operated within the flow diagram. Flow
animations in pipelines make technical processes transparent and comprehensible. In this way, proces know-how is quickly acquired, and a sustainable gain in competence is achieved.
-
GUI modules
Interactive replications of operating and user interfaces for training experiences with direct feedback
To faithfully simulate facility behaviour and design, real operating interfaces, consoles, control
boxes, etc., are interactively replicated. These can be simple units, like pump start modules,
or very complex control devices that include various screen pages. With these realistic software
replicas, your trainees can practice operation procedures with all steps just as they will later
perform them in real life. Through cross-system interfaces (standardized as well as proprietary
software and hardware interfaces), original devices can alternatively be connected to iSi-Frame.The learning experience is highly practical and particularly effective due to its action-oriented
nature. By engaging in practical activity, trainees internalize work steps and processes sustainably. This also creates a recall value upon first operating the real equipment, providing your trainees with a good feeling and confidence. They are optimally prepared for field deployment. -
SimTE training units
Unlimited design possibilities for lessons and training scenarios
iSi-Frame enables the realization of a tailored, holistic training experience. Depending on the learning objectives and tasks, training sessions can be conducted individually and autonomously, instructor-led in class, and as targeted team training in various configurations (single-user and multi-user training). The simulation-based training environment (SimTE) integrated into iSi-Frame designs, manages, and organizes the entire training.Creating training units in SimTE is straightforward and user-friendly due to sophisticated functions and predefined model actions:
- Activate actions and conditions that influence facility and system behavior, e.g., by selecting predefined malfunctions or defects, changing selected simulation values (e.g., tank contents), altering environmental conditions (e.g., air temperature, water salinity, wind direction)
- Save simulation sequences as instructor-led demonstrations or individual training units with operating instructions, warnings, and assistance
- Record and play back training sessions for demonstration or evaluation
- Record and save user actions and system events with an appropriate initial state for repetition
- Automatically generate learning objectives, system events, exercises, and test tasks with individual customization options by the instructor
- Assess and evaluate learning development
- Comprehensive training and course management
-
Incident scenarios/System failures
Targeted preparation of your entire team for critical situations and malfunctions during operations
Things become particularly challenging when disruptions and defects occur during the operation of a system, requiring different departments and teams to work hand in hand and react quickly to identify and resolve the cause. Mistakes by individual team members can trigger unwanted chain reactions with potentially disastrous consequences. Causing defects on the original installation for training purposes is not an option to avoid damage to people, nature, and the system itself. Here, simulation using the digital twin as a training object is an unparalleled solution.Multi-user training over the network
All users connected to the network who have been assigned a "trainee role" by the instructor can work together in a scenario and influence it collectively. For instance, ship crew members with different responsibilities can jointly train on the correct response to a system failure. If a team member makes a wrong decision and errors in the simulation, other team members can intervene accordingly.
Single-user training
Each scenario or training unit can, of course, also be conducted as individual training.
Instructors with appropriate role permissions can configure a training scenario with tasks to be solved (malfunction, environmental change, etc.), start it, and transfer the preconfigured state at any time over a network interface − for a multi-user session to multiple or all trainees, and for a single-user session to an individual trainee. Instructors can also always retrieve system states over the network and continue working with the respective trainee states or simulation instances. -
Communication training
Targeted communication training over the network
Effective communication is essential for smooth collaboration among many people with different responsibilities. In addition to technical operations training, iSi-Frame also allows for the creation of applications for efficient communication training − including the operation of mobile radio devices and other communications equipment through GUI modules, whether generic or type-specific.Based on the system design of your installed communication solution, the communication matrix (connection overview/radio fleet mapping) integrated into iSi-Frame captures all essential communicative emphases, user groups/departments, employee roles, communication and escalation paths, etc., for your facility operations. This matrix enables the realization of realistic communication scenarios for task-, expertise-, and situation-based training of your various teams using the relevant communication equipment, such as direct calls, group calls, or emergency calls.
Integration of additional training tools
Especially for highly complex facilities, systems, and processes, a holistic training concept is crucial for training success. Trainees successfully and sustainably complete a simulation when they possess solid foundational knowledge. Traditional e-learning modules are particularly well-suited for conveying theoretical foundational knowledge.
The perfect connection between theory and practice
With iSi-Frame, simulations can easily be combined with corresponding theoretical learning modules. This integrated training solution (SIM/SBA concept: Simulation/Simulation-based training) intelligently links e-learning with simulation. Theoretical foundational knowledge from e-learning is practically applied in the desktop simulation. SIM and SBA are connected via an interface. This interface starts demonstrations, exercises, and tests in the simulation related to the content provided in e-learning. Each lesson addresses a specific problem and is linked to a clear learning objective. The simulation result can be measured in percentage terms and displayed in e-learning to assess learning progress.
Depending on your training objectives and project requirements, Virtual Reality scenarios, 3D environments, third-party simulators, OEM original devices, and other hardware components can be connected to iSi-Frame for interaction.
iSi-Frame is the ideal tool for holistic technical training at the highest level, preparing your team optimally for real-world application: from the secure mastery of complex systems to seamless collaboration in critical situations.
